Zapisz A playful fusion dessert featuring pillowy pierogi stuffed with spiced apples, skewered and drizzled with luscious caramel sauce, Caramel Apple Pierogi Skewers are a crowd-pleasing treat perfect for fall gatherings.
I first made these when looking for a fun, hands-on dessert for a family fall get-together. Everyone enjoyed assembling their own skewers, and the caramel drizzle brought everything together deliciously.
Ingredients
- Dough: 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 large egg, 1/2 cup sour cream, 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- Apple Filling: 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled, cored, diced small), 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- Assembly & Topping: 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing), 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade), 1/4 cup chopped toasted pecans (optional), 8 wooden skewers
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add egg, sour cream, and softened butter. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Knead for 5 minutes on a floured surface until smooth. Cover and let rest for 20 minutes.
- Make the Filling:
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook, stirring, for 5 – 7 minutes until apples are tender but not mushy. Remove from heat and cool.
- Assemble the Pierogi:
- Roll out dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut out 3-inch rounds. Place 1 teaspoon of apple filling in the center of each round. Fold over to form a half-moon; press edges to seal. Crimp with a fork for a decorative edge.
- Cook the Pierogi:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop pierogi in batches. When they float (about 3 – 4 minutes), remove with a slotted spoon.
- Sauté:
- In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Sauté boiled pierogi until golden on both sides, about 2 – 3 minutes per side.
- Skewer & Serve:
- Thread 2 pierogi onto each wooden skewer. Arrange on a serving platter. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with chopped pecans if desired. Serve warm.
